Good music can help you warm up, boost your speed or rhythmically pace the resistance and control of your set repetitions. STAY WITH THE BEAT!
I have a playlist for my workouts. I used to make a mix for my run and a mix for my lifting. Maybe you are a Spotify or Pandora person? Comment below your ideas on this and let’s stick to the beat!
When you run:
Find music that propels you! If any song depresses you or makes you think about stress or beef with another person, press SKIP! Play music that allows you to free yourself of stress, blame or even being mad about something. Bad vibes only make you feel worse. I love Donnie Hathaway’s “Giving Up,” but in the gym… eh, not so much! Choose workout music that allows you to manage your pace, breathing and even cool down.
When you lift:
Find the down beat to ensure you are conscious of your form to extend and contract muscles properly. Get the full benefit by slowing downward and pumping upward! Heavy lifting does not look like jumping jacks but you could superset a cardio drill between your lifting sets. No need to just stand there! Are you getting bored? Thinking of the workday? Next song, next rep set!!!
When you stretch:
Put your slow jams on to calm your heart, your lungs and your mind. I like to challenge my flexibility with stretches and poses yet, my favorite move of all is just to lie there completely flat on my back, arms beside me, releasing all tension in my legs and just look at the ceiling. For even two minutes of our hectic day, we could all benefit this in the long run.
Create play lists or stations with the right music for your workout. Change it up! Take out the songs that discourage, curse you or put you in a bad mood.
Hope you enjoyed the tap video! I love dancing! Form, strength, balance, minding counts and creative moves definitely keep me excited about challenging my body’s possibilities. Let’s turn it up!
